You know when the holidays stress me out?
When friends whom I didn’t buy things for buy me things. I realize said friends are giving a gift out of the kindness of their heart. But still, argh, I feel like a tool. This always happens to me 1-2 time per holiday season.
Second worse part. Surprising me with said gift. Give me an “oh, we were thinking about dropping by your house to drop off a little something” warning. I can improvise rockin’ gifts in no time. I just need a warning!
So instead I smiled, was truly grateful and thankful, and then beat myself up for 15 minutes after they left the house.
Fail. Fail. Fail.

A pain to be in the awkward moment, but perhaps send a nice thank you note or new years card?

the worst! that happened to me and my boss a couple of years ago. now, with a new boss, i had a gift on hand in case she gave me one—which she did today! phew. it never hurts to have some gifts on hand, just in case.

You should keep a couple bottles of wine on hand just for this very reason.
