I have a distinct memory from when I was a little girl of making a pact with my best friend that we would only ever want and ask for toys for Christmas.

I’m pretty sure the pact stemmed from one of us receiving a shirt instead of a new Polly Pocket as a gift from our parents. The horror!

Last night, the memory of our pact came flooding back as I gleefully spent Christmas gift card money on bedding (YAY!), towels (WOOT!), and housewares (SCORE!). All the while hoping there would be enough left over to nab a shirt I’ve been eyeing.

It’s funny how my vision of the perfect gift and ideal purchases have changed. The way the concept of “toys” has evolved beyond the realm of play. The fact that I’m getting older. My pre-adolescent self would be appalled.
