In which I act like a small child. Sorry.
I received a medical bill today for a routine pap smear from my yearly (sorry dudes). I called, smug, because I know my insurance plan covers routine and annual preventative care. ”I’m sorry, while your doctor is in network, the lab they sent your tests to to is not.” Huh? Sweet, bu-bye $100 bones.
Let’s add that to the $200 medical bill for Bren’s urgent care “surgery” drama from a couple months back.
Oh, and his ONE accounting course this semester will cost a lovely $400, and that is with renting, not buying, the book. I thought community colleges were supposed to be less expensive?
So I rage cried. Which is what I do when I feel like I’m doing everything I can to attain a goal and it just.isn’t.working. Mature, I know.
I am thankful that we have the money to pay bills. And that I have medical insurance. For whatever the fuck it’s worth.
But sometimes I feel like the system, and in this case, these two service-oriented systems, look for any and every loophole in which to make what seems like a ludicrous amount of money off each individual case. And yes, I’m intelligent and informed enough to know why things work the way they do. You have to have your head in a hole to have not heard or read something about our nation’s healthcare and education systems.
But for now, I rage cry. And tomorrow, I write checks.

You should be able to contest it because you don’t have any control over what lab they send it to, so they need to cover it. They may be able to have your fill out paperwork to have it reimbursed.

Could you try calling your insurance company? That’s kinda ridic, or maybe even your insurance broker who handles it for the company? At my job they try to help you as much as they can.
