Brendan is having a rough day. And I can’t fix it or make it a whole lot better except to give a few thoughts on what I would do in his situation. But how much weight does my advice have given I’ve never exactly been in his shoes?

So I listen the best I can. And tell him I hope that his day gets better.

I hope tonight can give him some joy in the midst of what I think will be a shitty week for him. We’re going to a concert to see a couple bands we loved around the time we met. There will be screaming, moshing, and stage diving. We may be the oldest ones there save a few grizzled old punks.

The picture above was taken, I believe, around the time we first met, or shortly thereafter, 9 years ago. Bren (middle) was a punk/alternative kid complete with wallet chain, Vans, trucker hat, and skateboard.

He wears suits to work now. His rebellious image has softened, and unless one sees all the tattoos, he can almost come off as bookish.

I believe music is powerful and affects us spiritually, mentally, and even physically. I’m hoping it comes through for us tonight - Bren’s imp grin and “devil-may-care” attitude could use some revitalization.
