If you are lucky in life, you will establish solid, life-long friendships. If you are truly blessed, some of those friendships will result in a connection that is effortless. All friendships require upkeep, but sometimes, it so happens that the dearest of friends can read your thoughts. They can finish your sentences. The get you when you don’t always get yourself.

Neff is one such friend to me, one of my nearest and dearest best friends. AND IT’S HER BIRTHDAY! Go tell her how fantastic she is. Now. Do it.

I was trying to think of a funny story to tell or even an anecdote in which to give her a bit of grief on this momentous day, but when I try think of something specific, I am overwhelmed by all the experiences and time we’ve spent together over the past 10 years.

College degrees, break-ups, make-ups, trips, first jobs, second jobs, third jobs(!), weddings, moves, big purchases, funerals, drunken nights out, impromptu dance parties.

To me, dearest friend, you are a “light-up-the-room” woman who lives big, lives consciously, lives loud, and is always wearing the best pair of shoes while doing so. Your energy for trying new things and bettering yourself is infectious, and I, among others, seek to emulate you. Most of all, you are a fantastic friend.

27 was a big year for you (home purchase!) in a literal and figurative sense, and I expect 28 to be full of wonderful events that we will again, as usual, forever and ever, celebrate together!
